Freshers Week with GUT

Freshers Week is undoubtably one of the busiest and most enjoyable weeks of the year. If you can spare the time, come and find out about Glasgow University Tennis Club at our Freshers Fair stall and our Taster Session, or catch up with us on campus...

      Freshers Sports Fair

The Freshers Sports Fair is a must-visit for both first years starting university, and older students looking to join a new sports club.

The Glasgow University Tennis Club stall will be set-up and manned both days, with Club Committee and PR Team members ready to answer any questions you may have about GUT. There will be opportunities to pick up some GUT merchandise - flyers, posters, wristbands etc., participate in the racket-frame "keepie-uppies" challenge, and most importanly, sign up to attend our Taster Session.

    Meet Us on Campus

The GUT Committee and PR Team will also be all around campus during Freshers Week, handing out flyers and free wristbands. We'll be draggin the mini tennis net around with us, stop by to ask some questions, or have a hit with the team. Will you be able to #BeatTheCaptains?

     Taster Session

We invite all prospective GUT members to attend our Taster Session, this year held on Friday 20th September from 1pm until 4pm at Kelvingrove Tennis Club

Our Taster Session is designed to introduce tennis at Glasgow University to everybody, whether you are a complete beginner who has never played before, or a seasoned player looking to join the Team Squads. There will be coaching for all abilities, Cardio Tennis and Mini Tennis tournaments.

Players will be separated by ability so everyone feels comfortable playing with people of a similar standard. Experienced coaches will lead the session, with Club Committee members helping out. There will be further opportunity to meet previous members and the Committee, and ask any questions you may still have about joining GUT. You will also be able to sign up to our Mailing List, to stay in touch with what's going on at GUT!

Our Taster Session will give you an insight into how we run our coaching sessions! After the session we head to one of our sponsors for some free food. This is a great opportunity to meet people and make some tennis friends!

SubCrawl

Not strictly in Freshers Week, but the first, and one of the biggest, social events in the Glasgow Uni Tennis calendar. Glasgow Uni Tennis Club has a reputation throughout Scotland for being the most fun-loving and sociable tennis club: our SubCrawl is like a Taster Session for those prospective members who are more into the drinking games and socialising than the actual sport!

The SubCrawl is unique to Glasgow, and it's very simple: the subway line (the underground) is circular, meaning we can get on in the West End, get off at (almost) every stop and head to the nearest bar, and end up - all things going well - back in the West End, where we'll head to our sponsor club Viper. Committee and older members serve as Team Leaders, a coordinate the challenges and drinking games, as we head out in groups of around 12 to venture around the Clockwork Orange.

Join us in the GUU for 6.30pm on Wednesday 25th September to meet the committee and get put into your team! Bring flatmates, friends and anyone keen for a good night!

Remember that Freshers Week isn't you only opportunity to join GUT. You can come along at any point in the year and try out some tennis. We give everyone a two week trial period before they have to decide whether to become a member, so if our Taster Session didn't sell it to you, feel free to keep coming along see if GUT is for you!
