Ladies Teams

Currently the Gents Squad at GUT competes in three leagues:

  • AEGON Cup, where we field one team.

  • British Universities and College Sports League, where will field two teams.

  • Scottish Cup, where both our teams also compete.

The Aegon Cup runs from the 14th of September through to the middle of October with matches every Sunday. In this competition, we compete with other clubs in Glasgow. Once again our team will be competing in Division 2.

The BUCS League starts in October and runs through to mid-March, with matches most Wednesdays. We have two teams, Ladies 1st and Ladies 2nd, with the Ladies 1 in division 1 and Ladies 2 in division 2 this year. This is the main university tennis league, where our teams get the chance to travel and compete with other universities all around Scotland, including trips to rivals Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Stirling. It's run as a round-robin; the team with most and fewest points get promoted/relegated. Transport to these matches is provided by GUSA. Our aim for next season is to get the Ladies 2nd team promoted to division 1

Both Ladies 1st and Ladies 2nd also compete in the Scottish Cup, a knockout competition for all university tennis teams in Scotland.

In addition, GUT also competes in the Glasgow Taxis Cup, which is an annual sporting event held between Glagsow, Strathclyde and Caledonian Universities. We field two male and two female players.

Results from 2017/18:

Last season, our  Ladies First Team finished 4th in division, with lots of close results not going their way. The Ladies 2nd Team managed secure second place in Division 2 joint 1st but narrowly missed out on promotion because of game difference. The Ladies 2nd Team also successfully won the Scottish conference cup beating Strathclyde 2nd team  to get through to the later stages of the Scottish cup.
