Gents Team

 

Currently the Gents Squad at GUT competes in three leagues:

• AEGON Cup, where we field one team.

• British Universities & College Sports Leagues, where we field 3 teams.

• Scottish Cup, where all 3 Gents Team play.

 

The Aegon Cup runs from September through to the late October with matches every Sunday. In this competition, we compete with other clubs in Glasgow. After a great performance by the team last year - our first in this competition - we have moved up to the second division and aspire to go further.

 

The BUCS League starts in October and runs through to mid-March with matches almost every Wednesday. Our first team is in the Scottish 1A division; our second team is in the Scottish 1A; our third team is in the Scottish 3A. This is the main university tennis league, where our teams get the chance to travel and compete with other universities all around Scotland, including trips to rivals Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St. Andrews and Stirling. Transport to these matches is provided by GUSA.

 

With the ultimate goal of pushing all teams forward and getting the 3rd team promoted and keeping the 2nd team in the 1st division, we have an exciting year of tennis ahead of us. So grab your racket, put on some shorts and come join our teams, whether it’d be as a player or a supporter!

 

In addition, GUT also competes in the Glasgow Taxis Cup, which is an annual sporting event held between Glagsow, Strathclyde and Caledonian Universities. We field two male and two female players.
