Equipment

Tennis Rackets - Pretty essential for tennis. GUT provides tennis rackets for player who want to join but don't own a racket. However, we have a limited number of rackets to loan, so it is recommended that you if you are considering joining GUT, that you purchase your own racket. Beginner and Intermediate players should look to spend somewhere between £20 and £70 on a new racket, and should generally weigh less than 300g, and have a head-size of 100+ square inches. More advanced rackets tend to cost over £100. Ask a coach or experienced tennis player within the club for advice if you are unsure about purchasing a racket. More informationa available in links at the bottom of the page. Check StringSports or Mantis-Sport for choices of rackets. As mentioned in the sponsors page, GUT members get a 50% deal with Mantis-Sport

Tennis Balls - Provided by the club for all training sessions.

Racket Strings - At some point, your strings are probably going to fray or snap, and will need replaced. There are a large amount of strings available on the market, but only more advanced players will notice the difference between them. We would recommend a nice multifilament string (comfortable with good balance of power and control) for beginner or intermediate players looking to replace their current strings. More advanced players may use a polyester string, natural gut or some combination of the three. From 2018, we will be bringing back the racket stringing service

Shoes - Trainers are fine for playing tennis, but for more information on tennis shoes, visit String Sports or some of the online sites below.

The best shop for tennis equipment in Glasgow is String sports at David Lloyd Anniesland(probably the biggest tennis shop in Scotland). Our ex Team Coach Jordan Gray is one of the managers, and all GUT members get 10% off all purchases there. Visit the website below. Clicking the "String Sports" link  will take you to their website.
